New Delhi – The Winter Session of Parliament will commence on December 1 and continue till December 19, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju announced on Saturday.
In a post on X, Rijiju stated: “The Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji, has approved the proposal of the Government to convene the Winter Session of Parliament from December 1, 2025, to December 19, 2025 (subject to exigencies of Parliamentary business).”
Expressing hope for a productive sitting, Rijiju added, “Looking forward to a constructive and meaningful Session that strengthens our democracy and serves the aspirations of the people.”
The previous Monsoon Session, held from July 21 to August 21, witnessed 21 sittings, but both Houses reported low productivity due to frequent disruptions. The Lok Sabha functioned for only 37 hours out of a scheduled 120, while the Rajya Sabha clocked 41 hours and 15 minutes, recording productivity levels of 31 per cent and 38.8 per cent, respectively.
The upcoming Winter Session will also mark the first session presided over by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan in his role as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Radhakrishnan, who took oath as the 15th Vice President of India on September 12, recently visited various sections of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to review preparations and interact with staff.
During his October 21 visit to the Parliament House, he met officials from several key branches — including the Table Office, Legislative Section, Question Branch, Members’ Salaries and Allowances Branch, Members’ Amenities Section, Bill Office, Notice Office, Lobby Office, and the Reporters’ Branch.
The Vice President appreciated the staff for their efforts in ensuring the effective functioning of the Upper House and urged them to continue their work with dedication and professionalism. He also extended Diwali greetings during his visit.
