Ranchi: Jharkhand is expected to experience the impact of Cyclone Montha on October 29 and 30, with heavy rainfall likely in the Santhal Pargana and Kolhan divisions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal is moving northwestward and is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 27.
The weather system is projected to affect coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha, with wind speeds ranging between 90 and 110 km per hour. Jharkhand will witness its secondary impact in the form of widespread rainfall and thunderstorms.
On October 26, most parts of the state may experience light fog or mist in the morning, except the northeast, with isolated light rain and thunder in the western region. October 27 is expected to bring foggy mornings and partly cloudy skies, followed by isolated thunderstorms in western and southern districts. From October 28 to 29, several areas may receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder.
The cyclone’s impact is likely to peak on October 30, bringing moderate rainfall and thunderstorms to many districts, while light rain may persist in some places on October 31.
The IMD has advised residents, particularly in Santhal Pargana and Kolhan regions, to remain alert for possible heavy rainfall and strong winds as Cyclone Montha approaches from the Bay of Bengal.
