Hazaribagh — In a major breakthrough against left-wing extremism, the Jharkhand Police and CRPF have seized a huge cache of arms, ammunition, and Maoist materials from a forest hideout on the Hazaribagh–Bokaro border, officials said on Monday.
The operation, conducted in the early hours, followed reliable intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoist operatives in the area. The joint security team launched a swift combing exercise in the dense forest, forcing the ultras to abandon their temporary camp and escape.
From the site, security forces recovered two SLR rifles, several magazines, a large number of live cartridges, Maoist uniforms, propaganda documents, and camping equipment. Officials said the hideout was used as a logistical and rest base for Maoist squads operating in the region.
The recovery comes amid an intensified security alert across Jharkhand as the CPI (Maoist) marks ‘Resistance Week’ (Oct 8–14) in protest against recent losses in encounters.
In September, three Maoists — including wanted commander Sahdev Soren alias Pravesh, who carried a ?1 crore bounty — were gunned down during an encounter in the Barkatha–Gorhar area of Hazaribagh.
“Continuous operations have pushed Maoists on the defensive. Better intelligence-sharing and coordinated action have helped us achieve major breakthroughs,” said a senior police officer.
Security forces continue to conduct area domination and sanitization drives in the forest zone to prevent regrouping attempts by Maoist cadres and to dismantle their remaining networks.
