Government orders change in school timings as intense heat scorches Jharkhand

Ranchi: In the wake of the scorching summer, the Jharkhand school education and literacy department have changed the school timing of all categories of schools.

From Wednesday to April 25, the school timing for the students from KG to Class V will remain 7 am to 11 am while that for students of Class VI and above will remain 7 am to 12 noon.

The academic loss due to the change in timing will be compensated later. The department has restrained schools from organising any sports class and prayer assembly during the period. Chief Minister Hemant Soren informed about the decision through a tweet.

There will be no respite from the scorching heat for the next 72- hours at least as IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre predicted a two to three-degree Celsius rise in maximum temperature.

An alert for a heat wave was also issued for Wednesday. Ruling out the possibility of any rainfall activity today weathermen at IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre said that no significant synoptic condition prevails over Jharkhand.

A Western Disturbance as a trough in the middle troposphere with its axis at 5.8 Km above mean sea level roughly along Longitude 60 east to the north of Latitude 28 degrees North persists.

A cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan was also seen between 1.5 and 3.1 Km above mean sea level. Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed over the state during the past 24 hours.

The highest maximum temperature of 45.1 degrees was recorded at Chaibasa while the lowest minimum temperature of 20.4 degrees was recorded at Simdega.

According to a long-term forecast, light rain or thunderstorm is likely at isolated places over northeast, south and adjoining central parts of the state on April 20 and 21.
