Wild elephant tramples 42-year-old man to death in Saraikela

Saraikela: A 42-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant while he was going to meet nature’s call near his house under the Chowka Police Station area of this district.

The incident took place at Balaidih village which comes under the Chandil forest range of the district about 40 km away from here early in the morning. Identified as Rahin Munda, the victim was a resident of the Balaidih village, the residents of which are frightened after the elephant-trampled death.

The villagers had come to know about the incident immediately after it happened but did reach the spot only after the killer elephant left the place. Then only the villagers had informed about the incident to the police. The police and forest department officials had reached the spot for inspection.

According to a forest department official, it was a lone elephant that had strayed into the village after getting separated from a herd of elephants now anchored in the Chowka jungle.
