Kolibera bypolls: BJP names Basant Soreng as candidate

Ranchi (By our correspondent): The BJP has announced Basant Soreng as its nominee for the by-polls to the Kolibera seat of the  Jharkhand Assembly. State general secretary of the Jharkhand BJP Deepak Prakash officially announced the name of Basant and said that he would be filing his nomination papers tomorrow in which apart from Mr Prakash many state level office bearers and cabinet ministers would be present. He said that Basant Soreng is an active member of the party’s ST morcha.

On Saturday a meeting of the state election committee of the BJP was held at the party headquarters which was attended by Chief Minister Raghubar Das and state organization general secretary Dharmpal Singh in which it was decided that the party candidate would be finalised after approval from the central leadership.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha had yesterday announced that the party would extend support to Jharkhand party nominee Menan Ekka for the bypolls to the Kolibera seat of the state assembly voting for which is scheduled on December 20. The by-polls for the seat was necessitated after a Simdega court awarded life imprisonment to Kolibera MLA and former minister Enos Ekka on July 3 in connection with the murder of a para teacher Manoj Kumar and subsequently Mr Ekka lost the membership of the house.
