Indian Women’s Hockey Team to Face Argentina in Crucial Four-Match Tour

New Delhi: The Indian senior women’s hockey team is all set to tour Argentina for a four-match series scheduled from April 13 to 17 at the CeNARD in Buenos Aires.

The series is expected to be a high-intensity contest, with India taking on one of the world’s strongest sides on their home ground. The matches will be played on April 13, 14, 16, and 17.

This tour comes at a crucial time for India as they prepare for major upcoming tournaments, including the FIH Hockey World Cup Belgium and Netherlands 2026 and the Asian Games.

India and Argentina have shared some closely fought encounters in recent years. One of the most notable was a thrilling 2-2 draw in the FIH Pro League 2024–25, which was eventually decided in a shootout. The upcoming series will provide valuable match exposure against top-level international competition and aligns well with Hockey India’s roadmap for the team’s development.

The tour will give India four fast-paced matches to fine-tune strategies, test different player combinations, and build momentum during a crucial phase of their calendar.

Speaking about the tour, chief coach Sjoerd Marijne said the squad of 24 players has been selected with a clear intent. He emphasised that the tour is an opportunity for more players to prove themselves at the highest level, adding that playing against a top side like Argentina will help assess individual performances under pressure.

He also stressed that team spirit remains key to selection, noting that while individual talent matters, players must show strong cohesion and commitment to the team to secure their place in the squad.
