Rugby Premier League Season 2 Set for Hyderabad from June 16

New Delhi: Rugby India has announced that the second edition of the Rugby Premier League (RPL) will be held at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad from June 16 to 28.

Following a successful debut season in Mumbai last year, the upcoming edition will feature the same six franchises. The league aims to continue providing a high-performance platform, bringing together leading Indian and international players while offering fans an engaging and fast-paced rugby experience.

Welcoming the tournament, Jayesh Ranjan highlighted Hyderabad’s growing reputation as a global sports hub. He noted that such events not only boost tourism but also enhance the city’s visibility and contribute to the overall sports economy of the state.

Rahul Bose emphasised the league’s commitment to constant improvement, stating that the focus remains on delivering a better experience for fans, stronger value for sponsors, and deeper collaboration with franchises. He added that RPL 2026 promises higher-quality matches, improved fan engagement, and a superior broadcast and digital viewing experience.

The decision to host the league in Hyderabad also aligns with the vision of GMR Sports, which is working to build world-class sporting ecosystems. This follows a recent agreement with the Telangana government to develop a Satellite Sports City within Bharat Future City.

Satyam Trivedi said Hyderabad was chosen due to its strong infrastructure, excellent connectivity, enthusiastic fan base, and the presence of a franchise partner. He added that the move reflects a broader effort to grow rugby in India and inspire the next generation of athletes.

Echoing this, A. Sonibala Devi pointed out that hosting the league would strengthen the state’s high-performance sports ecosystem and provide valuable exposure to emerging players.

With a proven format, top-tier competition, and a new host city, the second season of the Rugby Premier League is expected to further boost the sport’s popularity and development across India.
