Sumit Antil’s 69.25m Throw Headlines India’s Dominant Show on Day 2 of New Delhi Para GP

New Delhi: Indian athletes delivered a commanding performance on the second day of the 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in New Delhi, clinching multiple medals and securing several podium sweeps across track and field events.

The standout moment of the day came in the men’s javelin throw F43/F44/F64, where Sumit Antil led an all-Indian podium. The Paralympic champion captured gold with a throw of 69.25 metres. Pushpendra Singh finished second with 56.91m, while Poonam Ram secured bronze with a throw of 49.48m.

Speaking after the event, Antil said he was pleased with the result, especially as he is currently in an off-season training phase. He added that he had expected a throw of around 67–68 metres but was happy to cross 69 metres. Antil also said he is focusing on upcoming competitions and aims to eventually reach the 75m mark, a target he is working towards ahead of the Asian Games.

Indian athletes also dominated the men’s 400m T13 race. Subodh Bhatt claimed gold in 51.88 seconds, followed by Priyanshu Kaushik with silver in 53.19 seconds and Avnil Kumar with bronze in 56.91 seconds.

In the men’s 400m T46/T47 category, Bhavikkumar Din Bharwad won gold with a time of 49.89 seconds. Fellow Indian Jasbeer took silver in 50.09 seconds, while Ivan Cvetkovic of Serbia secured bronze with 50.93 seconds.

India continued its dominance in the wheelchair 400m T53/T54 event. Manojkumar Sabapathi finished first in 54.33 seconds, Anil Kumar won silver with 57.57 seconds, and Manikandan Jothi claimed bronze with a time of 1:01.94.

Indian women also delivered strong performances. In the women’s 400m T11/T12 race, Tejalben Amraji Damor secured gold in 57.53 seconds. Lalitha Killaka finished with silver in 1:07.92, while Shalini Chaudhary completed another Indian clean sweep with bronze in 1:16.79.

In the women’s shot put F36/F37/F40, Lakshmi won gold with a throw of 7.76 metres. Akutai Sitaram Ulbhagat took silver with 5.49m, while Chimi Dema of Bhutan secured bronze with 5.27m.

India also swept the podium in the men’s long jump T42/T63, where Shaliesh Kumar clinched gold with a jump of 5.47 metres. Ramsingbhai Govindbhai Padhiyar won silver with 4.68m, and Solairaj Jagannathan took bronze with 3.23m.

Another Indian sweep came in the men’s shot put F46 event. Rohit Kumar secured gold with a throw of 14.35 metres, Devendra Singh Gurjar claimed silver with 13.97m, and Lokesh Akula won bronze with 10.92m.

In the men’s discus throw F51/F55, Sahil Salim Sayyad won gold with a throw of 36.83 metres. Sukhchain finished with silver at 30.49m, while Sudhir secured bronze with 28.78m.

The men’s javelin throw F12/F13 also saw Indian athletes dominate. Manjeet claimed gold with a throw of 57.86 metres, followed by Pratik Amrutrao Patil with silver at 50.43m and Irfan Diwan with bronze at 45.39m.

In the men’s javelin throw F40/F41 category, Sunil Kumar took gold with 32.58 metres, while Prince Kumar and Kathir Dhanasekaran secured silver and bronze respectively.

Among other results, Mohit Pal won gold in the men’s 400m T12 with a time of 54.39 seconds, while Lucky Yadav finished second with 1:04.27.

International athletes also made their mark. Russia swept the men’s 400m T20 podium led by Sergei Makarov, who won gold in 49.20 seconds. In the women’s 400m T20 event, Natalia Sainchina of Russia claimed gold with a time of 1:00.52.

With a series of podium sweeps and strong individual performances, Indian para athletes once again showcased their growing strength at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in New Delhi.
