Global Tennis Stars to Lead World Tennis League’s India Debut in Bengaluru

The World Tennis League (WTL), after completing three successful seasons in the UAE, is all set to make its first-ever appearance in India. Scheduled from December 17 to 20, the tournament will be hosted at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium in Bengaluru, managed by the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association.

This edition brings an impressive roster of international players, including Daniil Medvedev, Nick Kyrgios, Elena Rybakina, Paula Badosa, Rohan Bopanna, Gael Monfils, Arthur Fils, Sumit Nagal, Magda Linette, and Marta Kostyuk.

With tennis gaining traction in India, WTL has also included top Indian performers such as Yuki Bhambri, Ankita Raina, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Maaya Revathi, Dhakshineswar Suresh, and Shivika Burman, offering them a chance to compete alongside global stars.

Known for its unique team-based format and high-intensity action, the World Tennis League continues to stand out on the international tennis calendar, drawing fans and players from across the globe.

World No. 5 Elena Rybakina expressed her excitement about playing in India for the first time, saying she has heard much about the country’s vibrant tennis culture and looks forward to enjoying the league’s dynamic environment.

Mahesh Bhupathi, 12-time Grand Slam champion and WTL co-founder, called the India edition a historic milestone. He noted that the league’s format showcases the fast-paced and engaging side of tennis, and hopes the blend of global and Indian talent will inspire future generations.

The inaugural India edition is poised to be a landmark sporting event, blending world-class athleticism with cultural vibrancy. As Bengaluru prepares to host global tennis icons, the tournament aims not only to thrill audiences but also to strengthen India’s stature on the international sporting stage.

Krishnan Kannan, Managing Director of Iconik Sports and Events Ltd., highlighted that WTL offers India a platform to demonstrate its capability to host world-class events while giving local athletes invaluable exposure. He emphasized the aim to create an experience that goes beyond sport, celebrating culture, entertainment, and community.
