
Ranchi: India’s athletes lit up the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium once again, adding a rich haul of 18 medals on the second day of the South Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Ranchi. The hosts clinched seven gold, eight silver, and three bronze medals, pushing their overall tally to 32.
Sri Lanka remained India’s closest rival with 23 medals, including eight golds, while Nepal trailed behind with three bronze.
India’s women hurdlers led the charge, with Nandhini K storming to victory in 13.56 seconds in the 100m hurdles. Moumita Mondal ensured a one-two finish for India, while Wijewera Vitha of Sri Lanka settled for bronze.
In the men’s 110m hurdles, Manav R struck gold in 13.78s, ahead of Ranatungage Roshan (Sri Lanka) and Krishik M (India). Middle-distance star Sanjana Singh added another feather to her cap, clinching her second gold in the women’s 1500m (4:25.36s).
Arjun Waskale powered to victory in the men’s 1500m, clocking 3:54.58s, while Neeru Pathak continued India’s golden streak in the women’s 400m with a time of 53.15s.
The discus events were a clean sweep for India: Seema threw 55.14m to win gold and Nidhi secured silver in the women’s final. In the men’s category, Kirpal Singh took gold (56.22m) and Nirbhay Singh silver.
Sri Lanka’s A. Samaraweera denied India another gold in the men’s high jump (2.17m), with Rohit and Aadarsh Ram taking silver and bronze.
India’s success builds on their Day 1 dominance, where athletes like Samardeep Gill, Prince Kumar, Sanjana Singh, and Yogita shone brightly, setting the tone for what’s shaping up to be a championship of Indian excellence.
