WPAC 2025: Kenyan Official Bitten by Stray Dog at Delhi’s JLN Stadium

New Delhi — A bizarre incident unfolded at the World Para Athletics Championships (WPAC) 2025 when a stray dog bit a Kenyan official inside the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium on Friday, sources confirmed.

Two dog-catching vehicles were immediately rushed to the venue to capture the stray animal and prevent any further risk to athletes, officials, and spectators.

The incident has sparked concerns about stadium preparedness and security management, especially given the international scale of the event, which has drawn over 2,200 para-athletes and support staff from 104 countries.

The JLN Stadium, one of Delhi’s premier sporting arenas, is hosting the championships on its newly-laid blue Mondo track, similar to the one used at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. The track was inaugurated by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on August 29, coinciding with National Sports Day.

The minister also launched a new warm-up track and a multi-specialty gymnasium capable of accommodating more than 200 athletes on September 25.

India, currently ranked eighth on the medal tally, has secured 4 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals so far. The country is looking to build on its best-ever performance from the 2024 Kobe Championships, where it finished sixth overall with 17 medals.

Despite India’s recent rise in para-athletics, the stray dog incident has raised uncomfortable questions about the safety measures in place for international competitions in the capital.
