Indian shooters Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar opened India’s medal account at the 18th Asian Games by winning bronze in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event on Sunday.
The Indian duo produced a strong performance in the final and finished with a score of 429.9 to secure a place on the podium.
Chinese Taipei claimed the gold medal with 494.1 points, while China finished second with 492.5 to take silver.
The bronze marked an encouraging start for India’s shooting contingent at the Jakarta Asian Games, with the sport expected to be one of the country’s major medal prospects at the Games.
Chandela, an experienced international shooter, and Ravi Kumar combined effectively in the mixed team competition, which tests both consistency and composure under pressure.
The result also gave India an early boost in the medal standings as the country looked to improve on its performance from the previous Asian Games.
