Ranchi : In the FIH Olympic Qualifier, New Zealand defeated Italy 3-1 and secured fifth place.
On Friday, the match was played between New Zealand and Italy for 5th and 6th place.
New Zealand played an aggressive game in the beginning of the match. New Zealand took a 1-0 lead by converting the penalty corner in the 7th minute of the match. Rose Tynan scored for New Zealand.
New Zealand put pressure on Italy by scoring the second goal in the 10th minute. New Zealand captain Olivia Marie penetrated Italy's defense and scored a field goal and made the score 2-0.
In the 21st minute, Italy made a comeback and reduced the lead by scoring a penalty corner. Lavanna Pessina scored the goal for Italy.
In the 31st minute, New Zealand scored another excellent field goal to take the score to 3-1.
Hannah Cotter scored a goal for New Zealand and secured fifth position for New Zealand.
