New Delhi – In a significant step toward digital transformation, India Post has begun a nationwide rollout of its Advanced Postal Technology (APT) application under the IT 2.0 initiative, the Ministry of Communication announced on Wednesday.
This marks a shift from legacy systems to a modern digital framework aimed at delivering faster, smarter, and more customer-focused postal services.
Given the scale of the transition — covering over 1.64 lakh post offices across urban, rural, and remote regions — some delays were experienced on the first day of implementation, August 4. However, the technical team worked round-the-clock to resolve the performance issues by the following day.
Anticipating such challenges, the Department had already deployed dedicated support teams and real-time monitoring systems to ensure rapid response and minimal disruption.
According to the Ministry, the APT platform is now significantly improving transaction speed, digital payment integration, real-time tracking, and overall user experience.
On August 5 alone, over 20 lakh postal articles were booked and more than 25 lakh were delivered through the new system across India — a testament to its efficiency and growing stability.
"India Post remains committed to providing uninterrupted public services. The Department is closely monitoring the system’s performance and continues to take all necessary steps to ensure a smooth and efficient transition," the Ministry stated.
Earlier, it was announced that the APT application would be introduced across Delhi as part of its initial phase of deployment.
On August 4, 353 Post Offices and 61 Branch Post Offices in Delhi officially transitioned to the new digital platform. To enable a smooth and secure migration, a planned service outage was scheduled for Saturday, August 2. During this time, no public transactions were carried out at the 414 affected locations as essential data migration, validation, and configuration procedures were undertaken.
