MECON receives National Corporate Social Responsibility Award

Ranchi: MECON received ‘1st CSR Honorable Mention 2019 Award- Excellence in CSR in challenging circumstances’ from Ministry of Corporate Affairs in the presence of President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State for finance and Corporate Affairs, Anurag Singh Thakur.

The prestigious award was received by Shri Atul Bhatt, CMD MECON for MECON’s outstanding contribution in area of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Director (Technical) Shri P K Sarangi and Executive Director (CS) Shri Sanjive Kumar also joined him in taking the award.

With a view to provide safe drinking water, to the underprivileged sections of society especially the Tribals through usage of clean and renewable source of energy, MECON has installed solar power driven pump set in the bore well at bartoli of Pancha Village, which pumps water to an overhead tank (OHT) located at central place.

This system makes water easily accessible to the inhabitants of Village. The water from OHT is distributed through taps. Through this initiative, villagers are getting round the clock potable water at accessible location in the village, which is free from bacterial contamination and safe for drinking purpose & consumption.

The project serves villagers living in the dense forests of Jharkhand. The importance of its impact can be determined through access to drinking water to households, use of solar energy to save electricity and hence ensuring environmental sustainability, whereas earlier they would have had to walk through dense forest to get water.

With this initiative of MECON, the 320 residents now have perennial access to piped water available on tap in their homes. The company CSR addresses crucial problems related to rural development through this project.

This is in addition to other CSR activities of the company which cover a broad range of initiatives which include education, health, sanitation, drinking water, vocational training, skill development, livelihood, community infrastructure, rural development and health related interventions.

The National CSR Awards has been instituted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to recognize corporate initiatives in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to achieve inclusive growth and sustainable development.

The main objective behind this initiative is to encourage companies to fulfill their CSR obligations, maximize the impact through competition and innovation and fully integrate CSR into their business philosophy. These awards are the highest recognition in the domain of CSR by the Government of India.
