Chhath Mahaparv to commence from Thursday, Mayor visits Ghats

Ranchi: The four day long auspicious festival of Chhath Mahaparv will commence from Thursday with the ritual of Nahai-Khai.

On the other hand, on Friday Kharna will be observed followed by evening Arghya on Saturday and morning Arghya on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation has also commenced cleaning of the Chhath Ghats on a war footing but despite that things are still far from satisfactory as all the roads leading to the water bodies are full of dust and garbage.

Ranchi Mayor Asha Lakra and Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargyee along with team of officials visited the Chhath Ghats. She visited Kanke Dam where she scolded the officials as the water was green and asked them to spread bleaching powder in the water so that the foul smell can end.

She also directed to put up barricading at the water bodies where water was above the danger level. She said that within 24 hours all roads leading to the Chhath Ghats should be cleaned so that the devotees do not face any problem.

Meanwhile, the markets have been flooded with items that are used in this festival and with the people already flocking upto the markets the shop keepers are hoping to do brisk business.

The festival will commence from Thursday with Nahai Khai where the devotees will take bath and consume food prepared by rice dal and Kaddu.

On Friday Kharna will be performed with devotees after which the 36 hour long fast will commence. On Saturday the devotees along with their near and dear ones will be flocking to their nearby river bodies to offer arghya to the setting sun and once again they will be reaching to their Ghats to offer arghya to the rising sun with which the festival will be coming to an end.
