Jharkhand witness 19 per cent shortfall of rainfall

Ranchi: Jharkhand has witnessed 19 per cent shortfall of rainfall till September 30 as the country witnessed 110 per cent rainfall.

“ The rainfall during monsoon season (June- September) over the country as a whole was 110% of its long period average (LPA). However, for the Jharkhand state, this figure came out to 81% of LPA. The rainfall received over the state was -19% “ says a press release of the Met department Ranchi on Tuesday.

It says “ during September month Jharkhand witnessed 266 mm rainfall against 234.7 per cent. But the overall rainfall from June to September was 858.9 against the normal rainfall of 1054. 7mm. The month-wise deficit was 55, 25 and 13 per cent in June,July and August. But in September the Jharkhand witnessed 13 per cent plus rainfall. Overall deficit is 19 per cent in four months”.

“ The southwest monsoon advanced over Kerala on 8th June (8 days behind of the normal schedule), and over Jharkhand on 21th June (11 days behind the normal schedule of 10th June).

Thereafter, monsoon covered the entire Jharkhand by 22nd June. Out of the total 24 districts of the state, 1 district received excess (Departure +20% to +59%), 13 nos. of districts normal (Departure -19% to +19%) and remaining 10 nos. of districts received deficient (Departure -20% to -59%) seasonal rainfall” says the press statement.
