Elephants create havoc in Khunti

Khunti: A group of elephants created havoc in Dumargarhi village under Karra police station area of this district.

Villagers said that a group of 10 elephants entered into the village late Sunday night and destroyed the home of one Chidiya Munda and later destroyed the homes of four other villagers and also ate away the paddy which was kept in their homes and thereafter left towards the forest.

On Monday morning forest officials reached the spot and assured the villagers that they would be provided compensation as per the policy of the forest department and asked them to file applications so that they can get compensation soon.

On the other hand, the villagers said that they were afraid of the elephants who were camping just outside the village and said that they will not undertake to sow paddy till the animals are made to run away from the area.
