Monsoon rains lash Jharkhand, heavy rainfall alert for next four days

Ranchi: Finally the rain gods have showered their smile over the state as not only the capital Ranchi but many districts of the state on Saturday received heavy to medium rainfall providing a much-needed respite to the people especially the farmers.

In Ranchi from afternoon 1 pm to 4 pm it rained heavily giving the people much-needed respite from the heat and humidity. The districts located in the North-East and Southern areas of the state received rainfall today while for tomorrow and day after an alert for heavy rainfall has been issued in many districts of the state.

The condition of Khunti and Godda districts was worst in the state as both these districts were having deficient rainfall of 59 per cent. Barring the day’s rainfall the average rainfall in Ranchi was just 290.8 mm which was 48 per cent less than average rainfall of 562.5 mm.

Scientist at the local MET department in Ranchi RS Sharma said that due low pressure in Bay of Bengal rainfall was taking place in the state and tomorrow and day after heavy rainfall in expected at few places in the state. Ranchi and its adjoining areas are also expected to witness a couple of spells of heavy to medium rainfall.

However, despite the rainfall Monsoon has been deficient in the state by about 38 per cent. According to the data of the local MET department instead of the average annual rainfall of 540.7 mm only 334.5 mm rainfall has been recorded in the state.
