Doctors remain on strike in state, impacting health services

Ranchi: Health services across the state were adversely hit on Monday as doctors in Jharkhand remained on strike in support of their colleagues in West Bengal. Barring emergency, all other health services have been stopped as about 12,000 doctors of Jharkhand are participating in the strike.

Due to closure of ODP service at RIMS and other government hospitals the people who had come from far flung areas had to suffer the most. Apart from the government hospitals the OPD in the private hospitals also remained on strike which also impacted radiology and blood bank functioning moreover the earlier fixed operations was also not done.

A patient who had come from Santhal Pargana pointed that after reaching at RIMS he got to know that doctors were on strike and since he had come from far distance it was not possible for him to return but would rather wait and hope for the strike to end soon.

Meanwhile, Dr Pradeep said that there are regular incidents of beating up of doctors and the community has been demanding implementation of the medical protection act but the state government in negligent over the issue. He said that emergency and those patients in the wards are not facing problems only work at OPD and other areas have been stopped.
