Ranchi: Sarala Birla Public School, Ranchi, celebrated Diwali with great enthusiasm and cultural fervour through a week-long series of creative, educational and recreational activities. The celebrations aimed to familiarise students with India's rich cultural heritage, traditional art forms and the values associated with festivals, while encouraging creativity, compassion, cooperation and social responsibility.

The festivities featured a range of artistic activities, including traditional floor rangoli and technology-based rangoli, showcasing a creative blend of tradition and modern innovation. Students also participated in terracotta painting, pot painting, lantern making, Lippan art and diya decoration. They prepared attractive handmade creations using different colours, textures and decorative elements, while learning about traditional crafts and environmentally friendly ways of celebrating festivals.

A flower arrangement activity provided students with an opportunity to explore their creativity through the natural beauty of flowers. The celebrations also included a fireless cooking activity, in which students prepared delicious dishes without using fire. The exercise encouraged teamwork, hygiene awareness, creativity and an understanding of nutritious food.

The pre-primary students added a special attraction to the celebrations with a creative group presentation. Displaying enthusiasm and coordination, the young children arranged themselves in the shape of a traditional diya, symbolising hope, prosperity and new beginnings. Their presentation conveyed a message of unity and collective effort.

To familiarise students with the cultural and spiritual significance of Diwali and Chhath, special informative videos were screened, highlighting the traditions, rituals, stories and values associated with the festivals.

A special Diwali programme at the school featured colourful dance performances, melodious songs and engaging theatrical presentations. Through these performances, students brought alive stories and traditions associated with Diwali and conveyed the message of the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

Extending the spirit of the festival beyond the school campus, students also shared Diwali celebrations with children of Rajkiyakrit Upgraded Middle Schools at Ara and Mahilong in Ranchi. Books, notebooks, pencil boxes and other essential stationery items were distributed among the children. The initiative encouraged students to practise empathy, generosity, gratitude and community participation, reinforcing the idea that the true joy of festivals lies in sharing happiness with others.

The school display boards were also decorated around the Diwali theme, featuring colourful illustrations, traditional symbols, informative messages and creative artwork reflecting India's cultural heritage and the spiritual significance of the festival.

Principal Manisha Sharma appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students and the collective efforts of teachers in making the celebrations meaningful and memorable. She said festivals were not merely occasions for enjoyment and entertainment but also opportunities to reconnect with cultural roots, strengthen human relationships and develop a sense of social responsibility.

She encouraged students to celebrate festivals with environmental awareness, sensitivity and compassion while preserving the traditions and values that define their cultural identity.

Through the week-long celebrations, Sarala Birla Public School reaffirmed its commitment to holistic education by bringing together cultural awareness, creativity, experiential learning, social sensitivity and value-based education.
