Police have arrested three men for allegedly cheating people by posing as customer care representatives of e-commerce platforms and digital payment services.
The arrests were made on October 15 during a raid in the Sura-Bhura forest area under Pathardda police outpost, following a tip-off. The operation was conducted on the directions of Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar and under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) Kailash Prasad Mahto.
The accused allegedly impersonated representatives of Flipkart, Amazon and PhonePe, as well as officials of Airtel Payments Bank, to defraud customers. They also allegedly used fake mobile numbers to lure people with promises of PM-Kisan benefits and loans.
The arrested men have been identified as Sandeep Das, 24, of Dhanpalasi village; Chhotu Kumar Das, 22, of Karhaiya village; and Sarwan Yadav, 22, of Kundaro village. All three villages fall under Pathardda police outpost in Deoghar district.
Investigators said the accused allegedly lured victims with cashback offers, persuaded them to create PhonePe gift cards and then redeemed the cards fraudulently. They also allegedly posed as Airtel Payments Bank officials to deceive customers over card-related services.
Three mobile phones and three SIM cards were seized during the raid. Chhotu Kumar Das had previously been charge-sheeted in Deoghar Cyber Police Station case No. 70/2023.
The operation was led by Cyber Police Station Inspector Santosh Kumar Mandal, with assistance from the Pathardda police team.
