The district administration has directed officials to intensify action against the illegal drug trade, illegal mining and unauthorised transportation of minerals, while strengthening security and infrastructure at the district jail.
A joint review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Dileshwar Mahto and Superintendent of Police Haris Bin Zama to assess measures related to the Narcotics Coordination mechanism (NCORD), prison security, transport and mining. The officials reviewed ongoing activities and issued instructions to the concerned departments.
To curb the illegal drug trade, the Deputy Commissioner directed officials to maintain strict surveillance across all blocks and conduct regular intensive checks against the illegal sale and trafficking of narcotic substances, including opium and brown sugar.
The Superintendent of Police instructed all police station in-charges to conduct continuous checks in their respective jurisdictions, keep suspicious locations in urban areas under close surveillance and take necessary action to prevent the sale and supply of narcotics near schools.
Special vigilance was also ordered during festivals, with intensified checking in both urban and rural areas.

On road safety, the Superintendent of Police instructed officials to regularly use breath analysers to check drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. Violators are to face legal action and fines as prescribed under the law.
The meeting also focused on removing vehicles obstructing traffic and clearing encroachments in the Basia subdivision. Officials were directed to take the necessary steps to ensure the early opening of Silmul Bridge.
Regarding prison security, the officials discussed installing electric fencing around the newly constructed extended section of the district jail. Improving basic infrastructure in the newly constructed 16-bed hospital ward was also identified as a priority.
