Jamshedpur Sees Spate of Serious Crimes, Bank Robbery and Daylight Firing Raise Security Concerns

A series of serious criminal incidents in Jamshedpur in recent weeks has raised concerns over security in the industrial city, with bank robbery, murder and firing incidents reported in different parts of the city.

The situation has also caused concern among business owners, particularly after a major bank robbery in broad daylight and a subsequent firing incident within days of each other.

On September 24, five armed men allegedly entered the Canara Bank branch in Golmuri and looted cash and gold kept in the bank's locker. Initial reports put the cash loot at around Rs 40-42 lakh, while the value of the gold was estimated at more than Rs 33 crore. The robbers reportedly fled on foot after the incident. Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage to identify and track the accused.

The robbery triggered anger among traders in Golmuri, who shut their establishments in protest and raised concerns over security in the area. Police have intensified efforts to trace those involved in the robbery.

However, another incident two days later added to the concerns. Firing was reported near Bindal Mall on Marine Drive on Saturday, with initial reports suggesting that three people were injured. Police reached the spot and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identifying those responsible.

The recent incidents are part of a wider series of serious crimes reported in Jamshedpur in recent months.

On August 24, businessman and Crystal Hotel owner Nikhar Sablok was shot dead. Police investigated various possible angles in the case, including a suspected land-related dispute.

Earlier, on June 27, Himanshu Singh was shot dead below DD Bar. Police subsequently took action against several accused in connection with the case.

On August 25, the body of Chandan Giri was recovered from Chayanagar in the Sitaramdera area.

Apart from these major cases, incidents involving theft, snatching, illegal activities and other forms of crime have also continued to pose a challenge for the police. On September 23, police in Sakchi claimed to have busted a racket allegedly linked to illegal gambling and lottery activities.

The series of incidents has put renewed focus on law and order in the city. Traders have been seeking stronger security measures, while residents are increasingly concerned about their safety in public places.

For the police, the immediate challenge is not only to investigate individual cases and bring the accused to justice, but also to strengthen preventive policing and reassure residents and the business community amid growing concerns over security.
