Deoghar Steps Up Traffic Enforcement, ANPR Cameras to Track Violations

The Deoghar district administration has stepped up efforts to improve traffic management and strengthen road safety, with ANPR cameras set to be deployed to detect traffic violations and facilitate the issuance of e-challans.

The decision was taken during a review meeting on urban transport, traffic management, road safety and illegal mining held at the Collectorate under Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Saurabh Kumar Bhuvania.

Officials were directed to identify accident-prone black spots across the district and complete the required safety measures within a fixed timeframe. The administration also ordered intensified enforcement against overspeeding, rash and dangerous driving, riding without helmets, triple riding and driving without seat belts.

The enforcement drive has already resulted in significant action. In August 2026, a total of 1,078 traffic challans were issued, with fines amounting to Rs 13.30 lakh collected. The driving licence of one violator was also suspended.

The administration has also directed the Education and Police departments to organise road safety, anti-drug and cybercrime awareness programmes in schools and colleges. Officials were instructed to ensure that details of all road accidents are promptly recorded on the iRAD/eDAR portal to improve monitoring and analysis of accident data.

Illegal sand mining and transportation were also reviewed during the meeting. Officials were asked to conduct regular inspections at sand ghats, verify records and take action against vehicles found violating rules. Four new checkposts will also be established in urban areas to strengthen monitoring.

The administration further highlighted the Good Samaritan policy, under which people who help accident victims reach hospitals are entitled to benefits and legal protection. The move is aimed at encouraging members of the public to come forward and assist injured road accident victims without fear of legal complications.

The latest measures are part of the district administration's broader efforts to improve traffic discipline, strengthen enforcement and reduce road accidents in Deoghar.
