Congress to Hold Ranchi March Against MMDR Act and ‘Chanda Chori’ on September 26

The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee will organise a march and mass protest in Ranchi on September 26 against the MMDR Act and what the party has termed “chanda chori” (donation theft). The march will begin at the Shaheed Sthal and proceed towards Lok Bhavan, where party leaders and workers will stage a mahadharna.

Congress state in-charge K. Raju is scheduled to arrive in Ranchi on September 25 for a two-day visit to Jharkhand and will participate in the protest programme the following day.

According to Lal Kishore Nath Shahdeo, state Congress general secretary and media department convenor, Raju will arrive at Birsa Munda Airport from Hyderabad at 11:10 a.m. on September 25. He is scheduled to attend a series of party meetings in Ranchi between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. before staying overnight at the State Guest House.

On September 26, Raju will join the march and mass sit-in at around 11:30 a.m. The Congress has said the protest is being organised against the MMDR 2026 provisions and the issue it has described as “chanda chori”. Party leaders said the demonstration is intended to highlight their opposition to policies of the Central government.

The programme is expected to bring together Congress leaders, office-bearers and workers from different parts of the state. The state unit has been making organisational preparations and has appealed to party workers to participate in large numbers.

The protest comes as the Congress seeks to use the issue of mineral-related legislation and political funding to mobilise its organisation in Jharkhand and publicly articulate its objections to the Centre’s policies.
