Tulip Hospital Seeks More Time to Respond After Licence Suspension

The deadline for Tulip Hospital in Ranchi to respond to the administration’s show-cause notice has expired, but the hospital management has not yet submitted its written reply. The management has sought an additional one to two days to prepare and submit its response.

The hospital’s licence was suspended following an inquiry into an alleged incident of assault involving a patient and the patient’s relatives. The action subsequently drew objections from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), which questioned the procedure followed by the authorities.

The IMA had maintained that the hospital management should be given a reasonable opportunity to present its side before any action is taken. The association’s position has brought the issue of due process in administrative action against healthcare institutions into focus.

According to the Civil Surgeon, however, the hospital had already been served a show-cause notice and given 24 hours to submit its response. Since the stipulated period passed without a written reply, the hospital management has now requested additional time.

The administration is expected to examine the hospital’s written response before deciding on further action in the matter. The response will also give the authorities an opportunity to consider the hospital management’s explanation regarding the incident and the circumstances surrounding the alleged altercation.

As of now, there is no information about any formal meeting between officials and representatives of the IMA or JHANSA to present their position on the matter.
