Accused surrenders in alleged assault on Tiger Mobile cop, sent to judicial custody

An accused in the alleged assault of a Tiger Mobile police personnel and an attempt to snatch his service weapon in Ranchi's Hindpiri area surrendered before the Civil Court on Saturday and was subsequently sent to judicial custody.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Imran, surrendered before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM). After hearing the matter, the court ordered that he be sent to jail under judicial custody.

According to police, a named FIR has been registered against Imran at the Hindpiri police station. The case relates to information received about the alleged sale of brown sugar in the area.

Following the information, a Tiger Mobile personnel was sent to the locality to verify the report and take further action. Police alleged that after reaching the spot, the personnel got into an altercation with Imran and some of his associates.

The police further alleged that the personnel was assaulted during the confrontation and that an attempt was made to snatch his government-issued service weapon.

Following the incident, an FIR was registered against the accused at Hindpiri police station and police launched a search operation to trace those named in the case.

Police teams conducted raids at several suspected locations as efforts to arrest the accused continued. Amid the intensified police action, Imran chose to surrender before the court instead of waiting for his arrest.

After completing the required legal formalities, the court sent him to judicial custody.

Police are now investigating the alleged role of the other accused in the case and conducting raids at their suspected hideouts. Officials said all aspects of the incident are being examined and efforts are continuing to trace and arrest the remaining accused.
