Santhal Pargana Commissioner Reviews SIR-2026 Progress During Surprise Palojori Visit

Santhal Pargana Divisional Commissioner Shailendra Kumar Lal conducted a surprise inspection of the Palojori Block Office on Thursday to assess the progress of the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR-2026).

During the inspection, the Commissioner reviewed the work related to updating and correcting electoral rolls and interacted with voters whose names had not been mapped, whose details were recorded incorrectly or who had received notices during the revision process.

Claims and objections heard on the spot

The Commissioner examined documents submitted by voters who had received notices and reviewed the action taken on their grievances. Claims and objections relating to unmapped voters and errors in names, ages and addresses were also considered during the inspection.

Officials were instructed to process pending claims and objections strictly according to the prescribed rules and ensure that eligible voters do not face unnecessary difficulties during the verification process.

Emphasis on door-to-door verification

Lal stressed that an accurate electoral roll is essential for a transparent and credible democratic process. He directed election officials to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the voter list with correct personal details.

At the same time, officials were asked to identify duplicate, ineligible or otherwise irregular entries and take appropriate action in accordance with election rules.

The Commissioner particularly emphasised the need to strengthen door-to-door verification. Booth Level Officers and other election personnel were directed to accelerate field-level verification and ensure that the exercise is carried out comprehensively rather than relying solely on existing records.

Fair disposal of claims and objections

Officials were also told to handle claims and objections in an impartial and transparent manner. The Commissioner stressed that voters whose details require correction should receive proper consideration and that decisions should be based on documentary evidence and the prescribed procedure.

The inspection comes at a crucial stage of SIR-2026, when electoral authorities are working to verify voter details, resolve discrepancies and ensure that the revised rolls accurately reflect eligible voters.

Earlier, the Commissioner was accorded a guard of honour upon his arrival at the Palojori Block Office.

Deputy Election Officer Sagari Baral, the District Transport Officer, the Block Development Officer and officials and employees of the election branch were present during the inspection.
