Hemant Soren Cabinet Meeting on August 25, MMDR Bill Special Session Likely on Agenda

The Jharkhand Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, will meet on August 25 to discuss and take decisions on several important matters concerning the state.

According to the Cabinet Secretariat and Vigilance Department, the meeting will be held at 3 p.m. in the Cabinet Room at Project Building in Ranchi.

One of the key issues likely to come up for discussion is the proposed special session of the Jharkhand Assembly to deliberate on the Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation (MMDR) Bill.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren has already expressed strong reservations about the MMDR Bill passed by Parliament, stating that its provisions are not in the interest of Jharkhand. He had earlier announced that the state government would convene a special session of the Assembly to discuss the legislation and pass a resolution opposing provisions considered detrimental to the state's interests.

The proposed resolution is expected to focus on Jharkhand's mineral resources and the financial implications of changes in the regulatory framework. The state government has maintained that mineral revenue is an important source of funding for development and welfare programmes.

The August 25 Cabinet meeting is therefore likely to be closely watched, particularly against the backdrop of growing political opposition to the MMDR Bill and demands to safeguard the state's financial and mineral interests.

Besides the MMDR issue, the Cabinet may also take decisions on other administrative and policy matters during the meeting.
