The body of Buland Akhtar, an employee of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly who had been missing since Wednesday, was recovered from Dhurwa Dam in Ranchi on Friday morning, bringing a tragic end to a two-day search operation.
The body was spotted in the water near one of the dam gates by local residents, who immediately alerted the police. A police team reached the spot and had the body taken out of the water. After identification, the deceased was confirmed to be Buland Akhtar.
Akhtar had reportedly been missing since Wednesday, following which his family members began searching for him at various places. On Thursday, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) launched a search operation in Dhurwa Dam after being informed about the case.
The NDRF team used a motorboat and other equipment to search different sections of the reservoir for several hours. However, no trace of Akhtar could be found until the operation was called off in the evening due to darkness. The search was scheduled to resume thereafter.
On Friday morning, local residents noticed a body floating near the dam gate and informed the police. The body was subsequently recovered and identified. The news left Akhtar's family devastated after they had spent two days hoping to find him alive.
Police have taken the body into custody and sent it to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for post-mortem examination.
The circumstances surrounding Akhtar's death remain unclear. Police are investigating how he reached Dhurwa Dam and what happened before he entered the water. Investigators are also expected to examine the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and other relevant evidence. The exact cause of death is expected to become clearer after the post-mortem report.
