The District Transport Department on Wednesday launched an intensive road safety inspection campaign in Chainpur to curb the rising number of road accidents in the district.

The drive was conducted under the direction of District Transport Officer Satyendra Mahto, with officials taking strict action against motorists found violating traffic rules.

The campaign was led by Motor Vehicle Inspectors Robin Ajay Singh and Pradeep Kumar Tirkey. The inspection team set up a check-post near Chainpur police station and thoroughly checked vehicles travelling through the area. The sudden inspection created concern among motorists violating traffic regulations.

During the campaign, the department collected a total of Rs 56,000 in fines for various traffic violations.

Officials said the primary objective of the drive was not merely to collect penalties but also to make motorists aware of the importance of road safety and correct practices that can help prevent fatal accidents.

Motor Vehicle Inspector Robin Ajay Singh personally counselled several motorists caught violating the rules. He warned them that even a minor act of negligence on the road could put their own lives as well as those of others at risk. The offenders were released after being fined and instructed to strictly follow traffic rules in the future.

The District Transport Department said such enforcement drives would continue in the coming days as part of its efforts to improve road safety.

The department also appealed to motorists to wear helmets and seat belts while travelling and ensure that all vehicle documents are valid and up to date.
