For Anisha Toppo, a differently-abled woman from Angada block, August 17 brought a new sense of hope. Born with a limb deficiency, Anisha received an artificial hand during a programme organised with the support of Inner Wheel Club of Ranchi South.

Photographs taken before and after the artificial hand was fitted show the visible difference. Experts from Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahayata Samiti fitted the artificial limb and explained the process involved in making and fitting such support devices.

Eight members of Inner Wheel Club of Ranchi South attended the programme. The delegation included club president Ranjana Shukla, secretary Rajo Kumar, former president Sangeeta Sharan and former president Kanti Pandey, along with other members.

During the visit, the club members were taken to the organisation’s workshop, where they got an opportunity to see how artificial hands and legs are prepared for people with disabilities. Experts explained the various stages involved, from preparing the artificial limb to fitting it according to the individual’s requirements.

Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahayata Samiti provides artificial limbs to people with disabilities and distributes them free of cost to those in need. The programme was also attended by people with disabilities from Ranchi and representatives of various organisations.

The club members spent time with other children with disabilities at the centre and interacted with them.

Inner Wheel Club of Ranchi South said it would continue supporting economically weaker and needy people with disabilities in the future. The club also appealed to people requiring such assistance to get in touch with the organisation.

For Anisha, the artificial hand is more than just a medical aid. It could provide greater independence in everyday activities and serve as an important step towards making routine tasks easier and improving her confidence.
