Koderma Police Foil Bank Robbery Plot, Four Arrested After Encounter

Police in Koderma district foiled an alleged plot to rob a bank after an encounter with a group of armed criminals in the Inderwa-Jharna Kund area under Tilaiya police station late at night.

Acting on a tip-off, police reached the area and confronted the suspected criminals. A gunfight broke out during the operation, in which accused Prince Pandey alias Baba sustained a bullet injury to his leg. Tilaiya police station in-charge Vinay Kumar was also injured while attempting to apprehend the suspects.

Police arrested four alleged members of the group — Prince Pandey alias Baba, Sunny Kumar, Atul Kumar Mishra and Aman Raj.

Three pistols, 15 live cartridges, five magazines, mobile phones and backpacks were recovered from their possession, according to police.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that the suspects had allegedly been staying in the Tilaiya area for the past few days while preparing to execute a bank robbery. Police are now investigating which bank was allegedly being targeted and whether other people were involved in the suspected conspiracy.

The injured accused was admitted to Sadar Hospital for treatment. Following the incident, Koderma Superintendent of Police Kumar Shivashish visited the hospital and enquired about the condition of both the injured police officer and the accused.

The police action prevented what could potentially have been a major robbery, while the investigation continues to establish the complete network and motive behind the alleged plot.
