Dr Bharti Kashyap honoured for work in laser treatment of keratoconus

Ranchi: Senior ophthalmologist and refractive surgeon Dr Bharti Kashyap of Ranchi, Jharkhand, was honoured with the Excellance Award for her research and clinical work in refractive surgery at the Kerato Refractive Surgeons Conference held in New Delhi from August 7 to 9.

The award was presented to her by Dr Radhika Tandon, Professor at RP Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi. Dr Kashyap presented her research and clinical experience on “Lasers in Keratoconus” before leading refractive surgeon Dr Rohit Shetty and ophthalmologists from across the country. A detailed discussion on the subject, led by Dr Shetty, brought wider recognition to her work.

Dr Kashyap has been working in laser vision correction and laser surgery for removal of spectacles in Jharkhand for the past 20 years. During this period, she has helped thousands of young people get rid of spectacles and meet the required vision standards for careers in the police, air services, aviation, locomotive operations, merchant navy and other competitive services.

She said spectacle-free vision had also helped improve the confidence and quality of life of many young men and women. Dr Kashyap said her institute had been using advanced AI-enabled laser vision correction technology for the past two years. The technology has been used for routine laser vision correction as well as in the treatment of complex corneal conditions such as keratoconus.

She presented the institute’s clinical experience and research based on this technology at the scientific conference in New Delhi, where it was appreciated by leading specialists from across the country.

Dr Kashyap said recognition received for work carried out in Jharkhand at reputed scientific conferences in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai demonstrated that patients in the state were also receiving advanced eye care and treatment using modern technology.
