Around 300 young athletes participated in a district-level athletics meet held at Gandhi Maidan in Godda, providing emerging sporting talent from across the district an opportunity to compete and showcase their abilities.
The event was supported by TERRI Mining Private Limited and the Adani Foundation under the Jitpur Mining Project as part of an initiative to encourage rural and emerging athletes and promote greater participation in sports among young people.
Athletes from different age groups took part in various competitions, displaying their speed, endurance, determination and competitive spirit. The winners and other notable performers were felicitated for their achievements at the conclusion of the event.
Medals and mementos supported by TERRI Mining Private Limited and the Adani Foundation were presented to the participants, adding to the excitement among the young athletes and recognising their efforts.
Speaking at the event, guests and organisers highlighted the wider role of sports in the development of young people. They said regular participation in sporting activities can help build discipline, confidence, leadership skills and teamwork, apart from providing a healthy competitive environment.
They also stressed the importance of creating opportunities for talented youngsters from rural and remote areas, where access to organised sporting facilities and competitions can often be limited.
### Focus on developing young talent
Under the Jitpur Mining Project, various community initiatives are being undertaken with a focus on local development. The project's CSR programmes cover areas such as education, healthcare, skill development, youth empowerment, sports promotion and community development.
Support for the athletics meet is part of these efforts to encourage young people to participate in sports and provide promising athletes with opportunities to gain competitive experience.
For many of the participants, the district-level competition offered more than a chance to win medals. It provided an opportunity to test their abilities against other athletes from the district and gain confidence as they work towards their sporting goals.
