
Jamshedpur: In a decisive operation against the illegal drug trade, Mango police in steel city busted a brown sugar distribution racket and arrested a youth late on the night of April 10, following a specific intelligence input.
Police officials said they had received credible information about the sale of brown sugar near the Durga Temple in the Market Committee area under Mango police station area. Acting promptly, senior officers directed the formation of a special task team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters-01), East Singhbhum, to verify the input and take necessary action.
The team carried out a targeted raid at the identified location and intercepted a suspicious individual. On questioning and subsequent search, the accused was identified as Mahavir Biruli, also known as Bhatku, aged 20, a resident near ABC Football Ground under the jurisdiction of Olidih police station.
During the search operation, police recovered 20 small packets of brown sugar along with Rs 700 in cash, believed to be proceeds from local drug sales.Preliminary investigation indicates that the accused was actively involved in supplying narcotics at the neighborhood level, raising concerns about a wider distribution network operating in the area. A case has been registered at Mango police station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The accused is currently in custody and being interrogated to uncover further links in the supply chain. Police officials stated that efforts were on to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the racket, signaling a broader crackdown on drug-related activities in the region.
