Brutal knife attack leaves young girl critical in Chaibasa, sparks outrage

Jamshedpur: A shocking incident has sent shockwaves across Chaibasa, where a young girl was brutally attacked with a knife late Wednesday night in the Kalyanpur Gudusai area. The victim, identified as Shilpi Modak, sustained grievous injuries and remains in critical condition.

According to reports, Shilpi, a resident of New Colony Nimdih, was returning home after taking tuition classes when an unidentified youth, who had allegedly been lying in wait, attacked her from behind under the cover of darkness. The assailant stabbed her nearly 12 times on her back and hands, leaving her severely injured and bleeding on the road before fleeing the spot, assuming she was dead.

Passersby noticed her in a pool of blood and rushed her to Sadar Hospital. Given the severity of her injuries, doctors referred her to Jamshedpur for advanced treatment. Family members revealed that Shilpi comes from a financially weak background.  Her father, Anil Chandra Modak, is a rickshaw puller, and she contributed to the family income by giving tuition.

The family is devastated and struggling to comprehend the motive behind the attack. Police have launched an investigation, but the identity of the attacker and the reason behind the assault remain unclear.

Raids are underway to trace the accused. The incident has triggered widespread anger in Chaibasa, with residents demanding swift arrest of the culprit and stringent punishment.  The incident has also raised serious concerns over women’s safety in that small  town in West Singhbhum.
