Madrasa teacher found dead in Dumka hotel; woman detained for questioning

Dumka — Tension prevailed in Dumka on Thursday after a madrasa teacher was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a hotel room within the Nagar police station area, officials said.

The deceased, identified as Mohammad Sadiq Hussain Ansari, was a resident of Sakrikitta Rampur in Godda district and worked as a madrasa teacher. According to police, he had checked into a hotel near Dudhani Tower Chowk with a woman. The incident came to light in the morning when hotel staff found him unconscious and alerted authorities. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The body has been sent to Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police said preliminary inquiry suggests the deceased and the woman were in a personal relationship. The woman, who was present in the room at the time, has been detained and is being questioned. In her statement, she told investigators that Ansari’s health deteriorated after they returned to the room following a meal.

She claimed he began experiencing discomfort and later became unresponsive. Assuming he had fallen asleep, she did not immediately raise an alarm, but informed hotel staff when he remained motionless for a long time.

Police officials said they are examining all angles, including natural causes and possible foul play. CCTV footage from the hotel is being reviewed, and the deceased’s family has been informed. The exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report, they added.
