Ranchi — A junior engineer with the South Eastern Railway has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly taking a bribe to arrange an electricity connection for a private company’s site office in Jharkhand.
The accused, Ravindra Kumar, was posted as a Junior Engineer (Electrical) at Bhojudih in Bokaro under the Adra Division. According to officials, the case was registered on March 16 after a complaint claimed that he had asked for Rs 15,000 to get the work done.
After checking the complaint, the CBI set up a trap and caught him in the act while he was allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 as part of the bribe.
Officials said the arrest was made on the spot during the transaction. Soon after, CBI teams carried out searches at his office and home to gather more evidence.
The searches were still ongoing at the time of reporting, and investigators are examining documents and other materials collected during the operation.
The accused will be produced in court after the required legal procedures are completed. Meanwhile, the agency is also looking into whether he was involved in similar cases earlier or if other officials were part of the alleged bribery.
More details are expected to come out as the investigation continues.
