
Deoghar: The holy festival of Mahashivratri to witness a vibrant display of culture and devotion this year as the grand Shiv Baraat in Deoghar prepares to blend spirituality with artistic expression.
The key highlights of the procession to include the participation of Neha Singh, a Plus Two music teacher at Project Kanya High School, Chandan, who will portray Goddess Saraswati. Known for her strong stage presence, she has previously appeared in the role of Goddess Lakshmi during earlier celebrations.
A noted folk singer and lyricist, Neha Singh has carved a unique identity through her devotional music on YouTube. Her melodious bhajans — Baba Sajal Baraat, Nache Barati Babangari Mein, and Shivji Dulha Banke, vividly depict the spirit and grandeur of Deoghar’s Shiv Baraat and have gained popularity among Shiva devotees and Kanwariyas.
Adding to the devotional fervor, her husband Prabhakar will appear as Chandra Dev in the procession. Currently serving as a Station Manager in the Eastern Railway’s Howrah Division, he remains actively involved in academic, cultural, and social initiatives alongside his professional responsibilities. During the holy month of Shravan, he is also known for his dedicated service to Kanwariyas.
A long-time member of the Shivratri Mahotsav Committee, Prabhakar has portrayed several mythological characters in previous years, including Sadhu, Chandra Dev, Varun Dev, Agni Dev, Pawan Dev, Veerbhadra, Narad, and Vishwakarma.
This year’s Shiv Baraat will also reflect a strong sense of family participation. Prabhakar’s younger brother, Sudhakar, will take on the role of Narad, adding a touch of familial harmony and cultural continuity to the grand celebration.
