Ranchi: Security guards at the Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Kanke, have launched an indefinite protest against the termination of 156 personnel who had been serving the institute for several years. Alleging that they were removed without any prior notice, explanation, or show-cause notice, the dismissed guards have been staging a sit-in near CIP Chowk inside the campus since February 3 under the banner of the CIP Security Guards Rights Struggle Committee.
The protesting guards stated that they had been working at the institute for nearly two decades and that no disciplinary action had ever been taken against them during their tenure. Despite this, they were informed on January 27, 2026, through the SIS security agency that their services were no longer required, leading to the termination of all 156 guards.
Calling the decision arbitrary and unjust, the protesters have demanded the immediate reinstatement of all dismissed security personnel and action against the officials responsible for the decision. They have warned that the agitation will be intensified if their demands are not met.
Responding to the issue, the Director of CIP, Kanke, clarified that the institute does not have the authority to appoint or remove security guards, as they were engaged through a private agency.
The protest is ongoing, and the administration is closely monitoring the situation within the institute’s premises.
