
Ranchi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre Jharkhand, Ranchi, has issued a special bulletin warning of severe cold and cold wave conditions in Jharkhand until further notice. Ranchi district has been categorised under the Yellow Zone, with a forecast of intense cold conditions.
Following this warning, and invoking Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, all government, private, and non-government schools operating within Ranchi district have been directed to suspend classroom teaching for students from KG to Class 12 on January 5 and January 6, 2026. School authorities have been instructed to ensure strict adherence to the directive.
Schools that have examinations scheduled during this period may conduct them at their own discretion. Decisions regarding the functioning of Classes 10 and 12 will also rest with individual school managements.
Officials clarified that government schools were already closed for students due to winter holidays until January 5. However, on January 6, government school teachers will be required to report to duty, record their attendance through the eVV system, and complete non-teaching official work.
