Three-Day Rotary District Conference 'Samagam' Begins in Ranchi

Ranchi: A three-day Rotary District Conference, titled “Samagam,” commenced on Friday at the Ranchi Club premises, bringing together Rotarians from Jharkhand and Bihar to discuss social responsibilities and service-oriented initiatives. The conference is being organised under the banner of the Rotary Club of Ranchi and will continue until December 21.

More than 1,500 delegates representing 125 Rotary clubs from both states are participating in the event. The conference was formally inaugurated by former Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta, along with Rotary International representative Ravi Raman, former international directors Mahesh Kotbagi and Kamal Sanghvi, and District Governor Namrata, through the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. PDG Ajay Chhabra, who chaired the inaugural session, welcomed the dignitaries and released the district souvenir.

Addressing the gathering, Shekhar Mehta said Rotary is not merely an organisation but a powerful movement driven by the spirit of service. He spoke about Rotary’s significant contributions in the fields of education, healthcare, sanitation, and environmental protection, and urged members to extend their efforts to the grassroots level. He noted that such conferences serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and fostering social change.

Ravi Raman highlighted that Rotary-led initiatives are bringing meaningful change to society and emphasised the need for collaboration with government bodies and other organisations to achieve broader goals, particularly in education and healthcare. He also encouraged greater involvement of youth in Rotary activities.

District Governor Namrata said the conference would further strengthen Rotary’s commitment to service. She described the participation of 125 clubs on a single platform as a milestone and said it would enhance the effectiveness of projects related to education, health, sanitation, and social welfare.

Rotary Club of Ranchi President Amit Agarwal said that Samagam would infuse new energy and direction into service projects. Assistant Governor and Rotary Image Chair Praveen Rajgaria called the conference a proud moment for Ranchi, stating that collective deliberation on social issues reflects the true strength of Rotary.
