Two die in accident while retrieving diesel pump from well

Ranchi: A heartbreaking incident occurred on Thursday night in Purnanagar village, under the Nawalshahi police station area of Koderma district. Two young men lost their lives while attempting to retrieve a diesel pump used for irrigation from a well. Initial investigations suggest that the gas created by diesel leakage from the well may have caused suffocation, leading to their deaths. The victims have been identified as Bahadur Rana (30) and Surendra Sahu (32).

According to reports, the two men had descended into a well that was about 35 feet deep, using a rope, where the water level had risen up to their waists. When they didn’t come out after a long period, their family members and villagers grew worried. Upon checking the well, they found both men lying unconscious.

In an attempt to rescue them, four other individuals went down into the well, but they signaled to come out immediately. Once they were out, they explained that it had been difficult to breathe due to the diesel gas in the well. The injured men were rushed to the Sadar Hospital in Koderma by an ambulance, where doctors declared Bahadur and Surendra dead. Meanwhile, one of the rescuers, Karu Rana, whose condition worsened, is currently undergoing treatment.

The Nawalshahi police have taken possession of both bodies and sent them for post-mortem. The tragic incident has left the village in mourning, and the families of the deceased are in deep shock.
