600 MW of additional power to be procured for addressing power crisis

Ranchi: Due to the scorching heat, the demand for electricity is continuously increasing in Jharkhand due to which in many areas load shedding has been reported. 

Chief Minister Hemant Soren himself intervened in the matter and took complete information regarding electricity from Energy Secretary Avinash Kumar. It was informed by the Energy Secretary that the demand for electricity has increased. The demand for additional power has increased from 300 to 400 MW, due to which load shedding has to be done. 

The Chief Minister said that the demand for electricity has increased so there was a need to buy electricity from outside and supply it. He said to buy 600 MW of power with planning for the next three months. He asked to make arrangements for an uninterrupted supply of electricity to the public. 

Energy Secretary cum CMD Jharkhand Energy Development Corporation Avinash Kumar had instructed Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam to buy 600 MW of power without delay. By Friday evening, 140 MW of additional electricity was received from the power exchange. It was told that 600 MW power is not available. But the demand has been sent by JBVNL and as soon as electricity is available, the supply will be ensured.

Due to heat, the consumption of electricity has increased from 2000 MW to 2700 MW in April. While JBVNL currently has only 2200 to 2300 MW availability. Still, a shortfall of 300 to 400 MW is being recorded. Due to this load shedding continued on Friday as well. 5-8 hours of shedding is going on in rural areas.

Unfortunately, JBVNL is not getting about 150 MW of wind power. Even with solar energy, electricity is not available up to 40 MW. 80 MW of electricity which is available due to flood is not available.

All three grids of the capital got full-load electricity on Friday. Even after this, people were troubled by the power cut. Local fault has increased the problem of power cuts because of this people are finding it difficult to live in summer.
