Jharkhand High Court grants bail to former Congress MLA Mamta Devi

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has granted bail to disqualify Congress MLA Mamta Devi in the Gola firing case. A single bench of Justice Navneet Kumar passed the order on the petition filed by the Congress leader challenging her conviction.

With this development, path has been paved for Mamta’s return from jail. Advocate Bhola Nath Ojha appeared on behalf of the state government while advocate Anurag Kashyap represented Mamta Devi in the court.

Mamta was sentenced by the Ramgarh Civil Court and the Hazaribagh Civil Court in two different cases. In one case, on December 13 2022, she was sentenced for five years.

In the second case, on January 4, 2023, the special court of Hazaribagh sentenced Mamta Devi and BJP leader Rajeev Jaiswal for 2 years in the case of the Gola firing. Challenging both these sentences, an appeal was filed in the High Court on behalf of Mamta Devi.
