Chaibasa: Five jawans of the elite Cobra battalion were injured as they contacted an IED inside the Tumbahaka forest under Tonto Police Station area of the West Singhbhum district. The jawans were immediately evacuated from the spot and sent to Ranchi by helicopter.
Police sources claimed that the jawans belong to the COBRA battalion. Sources claimed that a joint team of District police CRPF and Cobra were conducting a search operation inside the forest during which they contacted the IED and sustained injuries.
Sources also claimed that post the blast a gun battle also took place between the security forces and the Maoist squad led by Misir Besra. However, as the Maoists started getting surrounded they fled into the deeper reaches of the forest.
Sources said that the jawans sustained minor injuries and search and combing operations were still on in the area.
