Cash for PIL: Jharkhand High Court seeks ED reply on Bengal businessman’s plea

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court took up a petition filed by an ED accused Amit Agrawal.

Hearing the petition, the court of Justice Sanjay Dwivedi directed the ED to file an affidavit in the matter. Agrawal’s advocate Shahwaz Akhtar confirmed the development saying the matter will now be heard on November 30.

The ED arrested Kolkata-based businessman Amit Agrawal in the first week of October. It is being alleged that he hatched a conspiracy to trap Jharkhand High Court (JHC) advocate Rajeev Kumar, a lawyer representing a petitioner in two PILs against Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren.

Agrawal pleaded innocence before the court saying he has been made a scapegoat and urged the court to quash all proceedings against him. According to him, he had withdrawn money from his account through a cheque and had
given prior information to the police.

According to him, though he helped trap someone involved in illegal work the ED considered him as an accused.

Agrawal before knocking on the JHC door had also knocked on the door of the SC for relief but the apex court had directed him to go to high court first.
